Welcome Back Letter

Hello Cardinal Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! As I’m sure you’re aware of, Melvindale High School will be starting the school year online. First, please accept my apology for the stress and circumstances that this decision causes for you and your families. Please trust that we examined this decision from every possible angle and came to the conclusion we could not open and provide the adequate and necessary safety measures for our students and families.

With that being said, we did create a plan for the Fall to provide the best possible level of education and service to our students. One way we plan to accomplish this is through our Advisory. Each teacher will be dedicated advisors to a select group of students. The purpose of this is to foster a learning community, build relationships, and provide an added layer of personal support for your student. Students will meet with their Advisory two times per week online.

School starts at 8am on Monday, August 31st. There will be two types of learning opportunities this Fall: Live (synchronous) and Extended (asynchronous). Students will be required to attend live sessions according to the schedule below:

Extended Learning will be activities and assignments that students will be completing on their own time.

Lastly, one thing we are focusing on is combating isolation, not only for our students but for our families as well. We are a school community and even with these difficult circumstances we will continue to operate as one. In order for us to stay connected, it is imperative that we have the proper contact information on file. The majority of communications will happen via email so please check it regularly. Please call (313) 389-3320 or email me if you need to update any information, or if you have any questions or concerns we can assist with.

Please visit https://melvindale.melnapschools.com for all relevant information including staff websites and google classrooms. Student and Parent Connect can also be accessed from the website.

Thank you for your trust and support. We look forward to working with you.

Kind Regards,
Ryan Vranesich
