Seniors, congratulations on making it to the end of your high school journey. On this page you will find all the information you need to make it through your senior year. Please make sure that you take special note of any deadlines as they are important to ensuring that you are able to fully experience the joys of your senior year. Congratulations Cardinals, the end is in sight!
 
The cost of the 2023-2024 ECHO is now $70.00.  A limited number of $15, $10 and $5 discounts are available on a first come first serve basis.  These will go quickly.   Students may order their books through the high school, Mr. Morse, (room B304) or you may order your yearbook online using a credit card.  Just type in jostensyearbooks.com and follow the directions for our school. The last day to order a yearbook is June 1, 2024; supplies are limited.
 
It is time to order a Proud Parent ad for your graduating senior!  Congratulate that special student in your family with a space reserved in the 2023-2024 Melvindale Echo Yearbook.  These ads are only available through the online order process. The deadline for submitting these ads is March 1, 2024.  Prices are as follows:
 
Full page = $275.00
½ page =     $150.00
¼ page =     $ 75.00
1/8 page =     $ 50.00
May 1st at 6:30 P.M.  The senior members of the National Honor Society will be inducted as permanent members in the middle school auditorium. 
April 25th at 7:00 P.M.   Seniors will receive awards, scholarships, academic letters and other honors in the middle school auditorium.  Parents, other relatives and friends are invited to attend.
All seniors are required to complete a senior portfolio in their English class.  The portfolio consists of a resume, cover letter, letters of recommendation, and other items that will aid students as they pursue a career.  Students will focus on the electronic portfolio during the 5th and 6th marking periods, and it will be due prior to mock interviews. The senior portfolio and mock interview are requirements for graduation.
Senior final exams will be given every hour each day on May 28 and 29, 2024.  Seniors will be excused from school after examinations on May 29th.  All laptops/cords, textbooks, library books, athletic equipment, etc. must be turned in and all debts to the school must be settled by the end of the day on May 29th.  You will not be allowed to pick up graduation tickets, and diplomas will be withheld until these matters are cleared.
All seniors expecting to graduate need to order a cap and gown by March 1st (orders can be placed on-line at www.migrads.com as soon as possible.) Please inform Mrs. Perkins in the main office if you are not planning on walking at graduation or have a cap/gown from a previous graduate that you are wearing. If you buy your cap/gown from a 3rd party vendor other than Jostens, please make sure the make and color match.
 
Decorating your cap:
  1. Cannot contain any advertisement, symbols, abbreviations, initials, words, slogans, patches, or pictures that refer to drugs or controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, or weapons or be of a sexual nature.  
  2. Cannot be obscene, profane, vulgar, or lewd, or include numbers other than the graduation year.  
  3. Cannot threaten the safety and welfare of any person.  
  4. Cannot make noise. No bells, horns, or anything that makes noise
  5. Only the flat, top area of the mortar board may be decorated. There may be nothing hanging down from any of the sides of the cap.

Non-compliance may result in removal from graduation ceremony.

PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE!  REHEARSAL IS MANDATORY; PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS MUST BE MADE IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT.  IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND YOU WILL NOT WALK.
 
Full dress rehearsal means you must be in your cap and gown. 
This year’s 2024 Melvindale Graduation Commencements will be held at the Melvindale High School Cardinal Stadium June 5, 2024, AT 7:00 P.M.  ADMISSION BY TICKET ONLY!! Each graduate will be given 4 tickets. Students please enter the field by the “ticket booth” closest to the concession stand/Oakwood by 6:15 P.M. 
 
Seniors must wear their gowns zipped up.  Blue jeans or shorts are not permitted under gowns. Please no stilettos or high heels, they can get caught in turf while walking.  The cap is worn level with the tassel on the right side.  A professional photographer has been arranged to take pictures of each senior as he/she receives a diploma.  Proofs will be mailed to the parents by the photographer. 
 
Parents:  No horns, balloons, or confetti allowed in Cardinal Stadium.
 
Parents should tell their graduates to use good discretion and common sense if decorating their cars with slogans. Seniors whose cars have vulgar slogans on them will be called into the office for removal of the improper wording. Parents should also insist on acceptable behavior while attending school-sponsored activities. Non-compliance may result in applying the School Code of Conduct. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. 
 
GRADUATES MAY FORFEIT PARTICIPATION IN ALL SUCCEEDING SENIOR ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING GRADUATION CEREMONIES. Parents must also insist that seniors continue to carry out their school responsibilities such as completing school assignments and maintaining good attendance.
May 23rd at 6:00-10:00 p.m. - at the Lincoln Manner in Lincoln Park. This is a Formal Dinner Dance.  No student will be allowed into the prom if under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  All procedures regarding ticket purchase and guest passes will be adhered to.  All debt must be paid before purchasing prom tickets.  There is no smoking or vaping allowed.  
 
No student will be allowed to attend if he/she had a suspension during the week of the prom.   Any student who does not comply with the rules will not be able to attend and no refund will be given.  Remember; attending the prom is a privilege, not a right.
Senior Mock Interviews are Tuesday, May 14th, 2024.
