MelNAP Return to Learn Plan

Dear Parents/Guardians,

After much deliberation over the last two weeks and a great deal of research and soul
searching, we have made the decision to begin the school year totally online. I feel,
along with the School Board and Administrative Staff, that beginning the year this way
will allow for teachers and other staff members to make decisions and plans for
students early, so that we may offer the best program possible for our students. The
teachers will have the opportunity to plan and manage an online curriculum that will be
as close as possible to face-to-face learning. At some point when things become more
stable in our state, we can easily transition back into classroom learning. The safety of
our students and our staff was at the forefront of this decision. The present plan that
the Governor released does not allow for the social distancing in our schools to be safe
for students at this point in the virus outbreak. Returning to school in late August with
the heat, wearing a mask will not be conducive to the health and welfare of our students
or our staff.

As you know, presently there are many unanswered questions; and we will answer
them as we meet and transition. Please remain patient and understand that the safety
of our staff and students was at the forefront of our decision! We will be supplying our
students with the technology and guidance they will need for online learning. Please be
assured you will get further notification and direction of how the items will be released to
families as the beginning of the school year becomes closer. We look forward to
serving you, answering your questions, and teaching your child. Our teachers are busy
planning and learning. As soon as the virus becomes more controlled, we will of course
resume in person instruction. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us
through our website.

Please have a peaceful, healthy summer and begin looking forward to returning to
school online! Food service will continue to provide breakfast and lunch weekly
throughout our online instruction. As always, your child's welfare remains our highest
concern.

Stay safe,
Dr. Kimberly Soranno
