3rd Hour Chemistry Assignments

1. Find your name on the Adopt an Element List
2. Do the information sheet for your element. Make sure to answer all of the questions completely.
3. Make a poster on the Google slides. There are hints to do a variety of things to make your poster.

This is a 2 hour video. You will have 2 weeks to complete this and turn in the questions. Break it up into smaller segments of time (30 minutes?).

Do your own work. Use ONLY to video to answer the questions (DO NOT GOOGLE ANSWERS!) You WILL see questions from the video on an assessment.

Lesson Plans

Watch the video on the lab and fill out the form. Stop the video as you do to write things down. Think like a scientist: what are the physical and chemical properties? The state of matter?

HS-PS1-1. Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms.

Afterwards, I will break you into groups to tackle the Scavenger Hunt together.

Take notes on the video on the provided sheet. Thought this might be a fun, Fall-themed assignment. Please do you best to keep up with assignments. Per the rules for virtual learning, late work is half credit and work after a week or two receives no points at all. Enjoy the weather and stay motivated everyone!

You will be given a type of matter. You will then have 10 minutes to make a slide on your designated number with a picture and 3 clues including a chemical formula (if any), physical or chemical properties, or its molecule. Then we will get into groups and you will fill out a google form and try to guess whether the object is a substance or mixture and then if it is a substance is it an element, compound or if it is a mixture is it heterogeneous or homogeneous. You need to fill out the google form in the chat. You must be present in class to do this assignment. If you sign in and then leave, you will not receive credit.

Brownie points will be awarded for especially creative slides.

Read Lesson 6 and Lesson 7 in your book, page 23-31.

Complete Exercises 1-6 page 25 and 1-6 on page 31 in your notebook. Type answers in the attached Google Doc and submit before the deadline.
We will go over the videos in class. You are 11th Graders; you MUST use proper grammar to the best of your ability on these assignments. Capital letters, punctuation, etc. Please and thank you.

1. Read in your book pages 13-16 and complete problems 1-11. You can do this in your notebook and take pictures of it, or you can type it up.
2. Watch the video on measuring volume by displacement and complete the worksheet

1. Watch the video on Alchemy, take notes and write up a summary.
2. Read chapter 5 in the book from pages 17-20 and answer questions 1-7 either in your notebook or type it out in google docs.
3. Go to the density lab link and complete the answers on the google doc called water displacement
4. Complete the volume of solids practice

1. Please read chapter 3 and answer the questions on page 35 numbers 1-6.

Asynchronous assignments are your equivalent for "homework" in these strange times. Do your best and read carefully. They should be pretty manageable.

Attached is Escape Room #2, designed to be completed for class or shortly after. Use the link provided in class with the Slides presentation here to fill out the google form and complete the escape room. Once you have completed the Form, click Submit and Mark as Complete here in Classroom.

Follow the link to start the Escape Room! Answer questions to obtain the "clues" needed to exit the escape room. The Slides presentation we went over has all the necessary pictures, explanations, and answers you're looking for. They are not obvious. If you have to, you may use the internet for help in answering the questions. Take your time and read CAREFULLY. All answers with numbers should be written numerically (1, 3, 15; not 'thirteen'). Click Submit at the end of the form to complete the assignment. Due by the end of class.
