About Us

Melvindale High School is where Cardinals will really expand their wings before they graduate from Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Schools. At MHS, students will continue their way through the core curriculum, while also testing out their special interests and preparing themselves for life post-high school. The staff works hard to develop high academic standards within the curriculum and works to always meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our students.

MHS offers five Advanced Placement courses in Calculus, Computer Science, English Composition and Literature, Government and Politics and World History as opportunities for students to earn college credit, while still in high school. Traditional dual enrollment is also an option for students as the district works with several local colleges to facilitate the program. If students are looking for a more fast-paced approach to an Associate’s Degree, MHS has partnered with Wayne County Community College and participants will have as Associates Degree at no cost in a five-year program, which includes their four years at MHS. Additionally, MHS has partnered with the University of Detroit Mercy which allows Melvindale students dual enrollment credits in the Engineering and Robotics fields.

In the Career and Technical Education programs, Melvindale students are able to experience training relating to specific chosen careers such as business and financial management, digital and multimedia graphics, marketing and entrepreneurship and engineering and mechatronics classes. During their junior and senior years, students are able to attend the William D. Ford Career and Technical Center in a variety of vocational and technical programs. Programs offered include: Auto Collision Repair, Culinary Arts and Hospitality, Health Occupations, Medical Assistant and Welding.

 

Back on the main MHS campus, students will explore opportunities that spark their interests through a variety of clubs and sports programs. Leadership skills will develop in the Council of Athletics and Leadership program, Diversity Club, Key Club, National Honors Society, and Student Council. Students can also explore personal interests through Deca, Drama Club, Esports, First Robotics, Medical Club, Science Club, Underwater ROV club, Women of Tomorrow and Youth in Government.
