Melvindale High School UAV Team Secures First Place Awards

Melvindale High School hosted the Ten80 MISTEM invitationals where they competed in 3 competitions. The UAV challenges, Graphic Design challenge, and Elevator Pitch challenge. They competed against 10 other schools in challenges like writing code for a drone, search and rescue, and flying a paper airplane through bluetooth. It took place May 11th and they brought home three out of four trophies! 
 
Our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle team called Retro5ive Squadron won 1st place in Graphic Design, 2nd place in Elevator Pitch, 1st place in Performance UAV Challenge, and 1st place in Grand Champion UAV Challenge. The team is coached by Miss. Laesser and student pilots who are on the team are Sarah Harhara, Hannah MacNicol, Astrid Moreno-Sanabria, Jeremiah Dejesus, Erica Blaine, Richard Wyn, Connor Johnson. If you missed this one, don’t worry because next year Melvindale plans on hosting the invitationals again.
