CAPSTONE PROJECT: Final Work for the End of the Year in Google Classroom

CAPSTONE PROJECT: Final Work for the End of the Year

Due to the extreme nature that this school year has presented, wrapping up the school year presents some interesting challenges.  As we approach the end of the year, each student will have the opportunity to bring their grade up to a level that they feel comfortable with by completing a CAPSTONE PROJECT.

Each course will have its own set of requirements for this project, but the deadline will ALL BE THE SAME.  It will be the student's responsibility to not only be familiar with each set of requirements but also the submission date and process.

Due:

WK 17: Word Art Band/Musician or Sports Team Schedule Poster in Google Classroom

WK 17: Word Art Band/Musician or Sports Team Schedule Poster

That is a mouthful to say, but bear with me and I think I can describe here what you are going to need to focus on...

For this week's upcoming project challenge, you will be tasked with creating a visual calendar using the "Word Art" technique practice in the WK. 16 assignment for either a Band/Musician or Sports Team. This work should be original in nature and follow the processes that we practiced in our last class period.  Below you will find a listing of the requirements for this assignment.  Familiarize yourself with each requirement as that will serve as the rubric grading scale for this assignment.

REQUIREMENTS

Using the Instagram Story format (1080 x1920) you will identify your band(musician) or sports team with a custom downloaded font.  When making a choice on this font, be sure to choose a font that is both readable as well as thick enough to see the image(s) through.
You will be responsible for downloading and using an appropriate image to be used as the focal point of this design technique.  The technique is simple to follow and you can refer to Wk. 16 video tutorial for additional support.
You will need to have at least two columns of dates (these dates can be real or made up) that are readable and display the important information that would be found on a schedule or calendar of events, such as dates, locations, and/or opponents.
CRAFTSMANSHIP...The overall design of this calendar-style poster is incredibly important.  Your final product should visually show your capabilities to the best of your abilities in working with text, color, and imagery.  No part of this assignment should be looked at as an afterthought and just rushed through.  Spend time thinking about the color schemes and fonts you plan on using.  Look for a variety of different imagery to make sure that the photos you are using make sense to this style of art.

HOW TO SUBMIT
You will be submitting two (2) digital files of this design work.  The first file will simply be a .JPG file saved at the highest resolution so that all the design elements you created can be seen/viewed the way they were intended to be viewed.

The second file will be a .PXZ file in which all of your layers, effects, filters, and designs will be preserved (saved) on their independent layers so that the work you put in can be seen.

Due:

Wk 16: Word Art (Placing Images in Text) in Google Classroom

Wk 16: Word Art (Placing Images in Text)

Good Morning/Afternoon...

Below you will find two (2) tutorial videos for placing images inside of custom font/text designs.  This is an interesting style of art found in music and movies to communicate a concept or idea with an image and get the best out of both worlds.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with all the digital files need for these two pieces as each video has specific photos and fonts used.

Pause the videos when necessary to be able to follow each step if my narration goes by too fast.  When you are done with these two images, you may save the file as a JPG and upload both to this assignment tab.

Due:

WK 11: Before vs After - Adjustment Layers Challenge in Google Classroom

WK 11: Before vs After - Adjustment Layers Challenge

Over the past few weeks, I've spent each class period walking you through the various types of digital adjustments you can make to photographs using the PIXLR software.

While some ADJUSTMENT layers are rather straightforward, there are other options that are a bit more involved and subtle will alter the appearance of your photo.

For this return to school challenge, read the instructions CAREFULLY below, and be sure to note any special requirements needed to be completed before your final submission.

REQUIREMENTS

Open the attached folder and familiarize yourself with the 6 different PXZ files.  Each one of them (PXZ files) has been organized into two separate layers, a BEFORE and an AFTER layer.  Your goal will be to document the process you make altering the BEFORE layer to look as close to the AFTER layer as possible.  Keep in mind, these adjustments won't be "spot-on perfect", however, there...should be a noticeable difference in the adjustments you make.

Choose 3 of the 6 files to do your work on.
Detail the adjustment layers you work with by LABELING EACH NEW LAYER with the name of the ADJUSTMENT USED.
Save EACH FILE SEPERATELY and as a PXZ format before your final submission.

Each image will be evaluated based on how close the final BEFORE layer looks to the original AFTER layer.  While some images may have a simpler time being adjusted, others may involve a bit more work.  Use the included, ADJUSTMENT LAYER CHEAT SHEET image to aid you in making the best decisions as you work through each image.

Due:

WK 10: Adjustment Layer BEFORE -vs- AFTER (work together) in Google Classroom

WK 10: Adjustment Layer BEFORE -vs- AFTER (work together)

As an opportunity to test out your skills with ADJUSTMENT LAYERS, today we will work together in an effort to continue to master using simple photo adjustments when touching up a photo.

Download the attached, PXZ file and make the following adjustments on independent layers:

Layer 1. Heal blemishes and smooth overall skin tone
Layer 2. Adjust Brightness to 25 and the Contrast to 5
Layer 3. Adjust Temperature to -25 and the Tint to -5
Layer 4. Adjust Vibrance to 25
Layer 5. Adjust Levels Grey slider .9 and White slider 240

BE SURE TO MAKE THESE ADJUSTMENTS BY DUPLICATING THE PREVIOUS LAYER BEFORE MAKING ANY OF THE ADJUSTMENTS.

In the end you will have 5 ADJUSTMENT LAYERS and 2 Regular, Untouched layers (BEFORE, AFTER)

Save your image as a PXZ file and submit before the end of the hour.

Due:

WK 5: Make MEME Bernie!!! in Google Classroom

WK 5: Make MEME Bernie!!!

So you've probably seen them before...that's right the infamous "Bernie Sanders, Grumpy Old Man" meme floating around on the Twitter-sphere. Now you finally get a chance to make one for yourself!

Read these requirements carefully as your grade will be based off of how well you complete each one. Be sure to dbl. check the IMPORTANT NOTES section following the requirements below.

1. Download and remove the background to the "bernie-meme-photograp.jpg" file, using PIXLR background removal site. Touch up areas that the automatic function may have left behind using the touch up tools.
2. Find a group photo (meaning more than just one person) to incorporate your "BERNIE" image into.
3. Using both the CLONE and HEAL tool, remove a person from the new photograph and "heal" or clean up the background so that it looks like the person was never there.
4. Insert your "BERNIE" image into the altered photo, making it look as though HE is the new addition to the photo.
__________________________________________________________________________________

IMPORTANT NOTES:
* While it's expected that there will be some mistakes or issues with your "photoshopping" job, the goal here is to show your abilities using the CLONE and HEAL tools we practiced last week. Your final version doesn't have to be perfect, but it should show the time and effort you put into the assignment.
* The point of this assignment is to create a humorous meme, not just simply slap one image on the top of another. Be thoughtful about how you plan on incorporating this "BERNIE" image into your new group photo.
* MOST IMPORTANT....I want you to submit two (2) files for this assignment. The first will be the uneditted group photo that you are using. The second will be the PIXLR file (.PXD) that shows your edits.

NO SUBMISSION WILL BE GRADED IF THESE TWO FILES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR FINAL SUBMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Due:

WK 3: HELP!!! REMOVE MY EX! Subject Removal and Replacement in Google Classroom

WK 3: HELP!!! REMOVE MY EX! Subject Removal and Replacement

Picking up where we last left off from SEM 1, we will be taking a deeper dive into BACKGROUND REMOVAL and PIXEL REPLACEMENT.

First, we will play around with the CLONE TOOL, using it to create a "Floating Head" appearance to our first image. Once you've mastered the CLONE TOOL, you will be asked to choose two of the attached photos and not only remove a subject, but replace the missing background as if the other person never exsisted.

Next you will choose from the options below, 3 images that you will work to REPLACE and REMOVE a person from the image.  The goal to this exercise is to practice using the HEALING and CLONE tools to create a seamlessly new image that looks "unedited."

Due:

WK 2: Workplace SHOW-OFF in Google Classroom

WK 2: Workplace SHOW-OFF

For our first assignment this second semester, I'd like to follow the same path we took back in September and highlight something about ourselves.

This week, I'd like you to take a photograph of your workspace, and label and identify 10 objects or things that you enjoy about this area, or help you focus as you settle in for work. These could be your favorite pens or books, or simply an area in the room that you feel the most comfortable in. You may use any digital means to complete this task (Google Slides, PowerPoint, or mobile app).*

Once you've completed this task, I'd like you to explain 3 items in this area (using the COMMENTS area when you submit this work) that you personally identify with and mean the most to you you. You can talk about why they are so important and what they represent. You can even discuss their origin and how you came into possession of these objects.

When you've completed this task, you will have a digital photograph with labels to submit, as well as a short write-up in the COMMENTS section of your submission that I will be able to review.
