Letter to Families - Our Commitment to Safety

Dear Cardinal Families,

Our hearts are heavy this morning as another senseless and tragic school shooting occurred late yesterday afternoon, taking the lives of innocent young children in a Texas community. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the families in Uvalde (Texas) who were impacted by yesterday’s devastating events.

Our thoughts are also with our families, as you send your children to our schools, relying on us to keep them safe. Your student’s safety and well-being remain our number one priority and we remain committed to working together as a community to create a safe school environment where students can learn and grow.

As incidents of violence continue to take place in schools and other public places in communities across our country, we understand the helpless feeling you and your children may have this morning. Our teachers and school counselors are available to provide support as needed, so please encourage your children to reach out to them should they need to talk to someone. We know that this is just as difficult for our parents and guardians, so we encourage you to reach out to us as well, should you need someone to talk to.

Please know that you are not alone in what you are feeling this morning. While that may provide small comfort initially, the understanding that we are a community and that we are dedicated to coming together to protect our children should provide hope. As such, let’s continue to work together to ensure our students remain safe in our schools, in our parks, in our places of worship and in our community.

Thank you for serving as our partner in your child’s education. If you have any questions, please contact me at 313-389-3304 or [email protected].

Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Ann Cyr
Interim Superintendent
